Changing The Time

We are fast approaching the day when the clocks will “fall” back to Standard time from Daylight Savings time and as happens at each occurrence, many people are up in arms saying that it is high time to stop changing the time twice a year.

I suppose there are arguments for and against but when it comes down to it, what is the big deal? You move the clock twice a year and life goes on. Yes, it takes a few days for everyone to get used to the time change but then it is forgotten and not mentioned again until the next time the clock is to be changed. Considering the many other problems that exist in the US and the world, does this warrant the hullabaloo that it generates?

If I’m not mistaken, changing the time is left up to the individual states and some of them (Arizona and Hawaii) don’t change the clocks and everyone has adapted to that situation. I believe that under federal law, “states are allowed to opt out of daylight saving time and remain on standard time, but are not allowed to remain on daylight time”. If it were such a big deal, wouldn’t more than those two states have opted to do this?

You know the old saying…everyone is entitled to their opinion and I just gave you mine.

Here in Saskatchewan, we don’t observer daylight savings time. The rest of Canada does and we just “get on with it,” as you said. My chickens don’t care, so I’m not going to, either. ;)

Whether the morning or evening receives the extra daylight (so to speak), I don’t see the bid deal. You either turn on the lights when you have breakfast, or you turn them on for supper. As you said, there’s more important things going on to worry about these days.

I can understand the frustration of those that believe that the time change needs to stop, especially in high traffic areas of the country. I have experienced myself the change that comes over people in a car when the time changes back on hour. It’s as if they forgot how to drive and the normally slow traffic commute becomes even slower. However, and as I stipulated in the original post, everything gets back to “normal” a few days later, and the time change is no longer a topic of conversation.

Now that the time change is a month old, no one is talking about it as I expected. Everyone is up in arms for a few days and then it is forgotten until it is time to change the time again. Changing the time is not that big a deal…

I haven’t forgotten - I still hate it and want to do away with the change. I’ll complain about it until we finally end it!

All you have to do is identify as a “standard time-ist” and then everyone else will have to adjust their behaviors around you. ;)
