Bellinger’s Demise

Cody Bellinger’s first three years in the Major Leagues gave you the impression that you were watching a future Hall of Fame inductee.

In his first year, he belted 39 home runs and had a slugging percentage in the 900’s. He followed that up with 25 home runs and a slugging percentage in the mid 800’s. His third year was the best when he hit 47 home runs and a slugging percentage over 1.0.

In 2020, his demise started rearing its ugly head as he struggled mightily on offense and ended the year way below par for him. Unfortunately 2021 was not much better… as a matter of fact it was worse than 2020 and although there was a hint that 2022 was the beginning of his rise to “normal”, he has reverted back to his previous two year’s performance. It is astonishing that he has fallen this low, but he is truly in danger of batting himself out of the lineup. At this point, the only reason he is still in the lineup is his defense in center field. But how long can the team carry him? It is almost like watching a train wreck…you can’t take your eyes off of it, but you don’t really want to see it.
