Back in June when the weather around here was unseasonably cool, we knew that the “Dog Days Of Summer” were coming and lo and behold, they have arrived. According to Farmer’s Almanac, the dog days of summer usually occur between July 3rd and August 11th. They’re usually the hottest and most unbearable days of the season.

So far, it is living up to its name in that these days are fast becoming unbearable. As an example, today the temperature is supposed to be 106 degrees at its peak and I believe that it has already reached that number. Luckily, the air conditioning in the house is keeping it at bay, but I pity those people that don’t have air conditioning or have to depend on fans to do the job. I can well remember those sweltering days in my youth when all we had was fans. However, the temperature never reached the lofty highs of today’s temperatures. All fans can do is move the hot air around…they don’t cool anything off.

In looking at the forecast for the next 10 days, at least 6 of them are in the 100 degree range and the days that are forecast below 100 degrees are hovering at 97, 98 or 99 degrees. If the Farmer’s Almanac is accurate, I can’t wait for August 11 to get here. This is an annual event and you should be used to it by now because I have a feeling that every future year will show an increase in temperatures during the “Dog Days Of Summer”. Stay cool everyone.
