The 2017 NFL Season - Recap Posted by poolmeister on February 07 2018
Well the 2017 season is over, and even though this season's Super Bowl did not have the excitement of last year, it was a pretty good game over all. It would have been helpful to me personally if the Patriots had won, but I still ended up in the money for the Playoff Pool and that is a good thing.
The money winnings have been paid out and another year of Fred's Football Follies has come to an end. There was a lot of excitement this year both on and off the field and depending on what and where you read it, attendance and viewership seems to be falling for the NFL. Some of it could be due to the fact that just about everything on TV can now be taped which would affect the viewership. All I know is that I watch it and will continue to watch it. At any rate, I hope you had a good time playing in the pool and hope to see you again at the start of the 2018 NFL season.
As usual, I am getting ready for the March Madness pool, so if you are interested and have not played before, drop me an email and I will get an invitation out to you. Spread the word to your friends and co-workers...the more participants, the higher the pot. For now sit back, relax and enjoy the summer.
The 2016 NFL Season - Recap Posted by poolmeister on February 09 2017
What a Super Bowl! With the Falcons leading 28-3 in the third quarter, the New England Patriots launched a comeback that will be talked about for many years. They tied the game at 28-28 with seconds to play in regulation and won it after driving 75 yards for the winning touchdown in overtime. If you picked the Patriots to win, you were probably resigned to having made the wrong pick, but as usual they managed to pull out the victory.
Another year has ended for Fred's Football Follies and all of the checks have been mailed if you had any winnings coming your way. As always, I hope you enjoyed playing as much as I enjoyed running the pool. You can now sit back, relax and wait for the next season to start.
If you are interested in playing on the March Madness pool, information will be emailed in the next few weeks. Check with your friends to see if they are interested in playing in either next year's football pool or this year's college basketball pool. Have a great summer and we will see you in the fall.
The 2016 NFL Season Posted by poolmeister on September 14 2016
The 2016 NFL football is underway and the big news this year is the Rams returning to Los Angeles after a 22 absence, and based on their performance in front of a national TV audience on Monday Night Football, they could have stayed away another 22 years without anyone noticing they were gone. Talk about listless and uninterested...not to mention undisciplined. Hopefully this was an anomaly because otherwise that new football stadium that is being built for the team will be hard to fill.
As with every year, there were some surprises during the first week. One of them is the Oakland Raiders and if you haven't figured out that they are up and coming, then you have not been paying attention. New England continues to win even without Tom Brady which indicates to me that Bill Belichick is the reason that team wins and no one player will impact the team that much. Arizona started out their usually bad way...with a loss and I have to wonder if Carson Palmer will ever play up to his potential. Oh well, there are 16 weeks to go so there are plenty of opportunities for you to win some money.
The High 5 Pool made its debut on Fred's Football Follies and unbeknown to me, in order to play in the pool you must play in the spreads pool. Of course I found out about that after 6 players had signed up and payed for it so I am having to work around the picks of those people each week to include them in the pool. Here is an advance notice...You will have to play in the Spreads Pool next year to play in the High 5 Pool. Lastly, your opinion counts, so don't hesitate to express it by using the Comments link in the left hand panel. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY PLAYING IN THE POOL.
The 2015 NFL Season - Recap Posted by poolmeister on February 15 2016
The first 50 Super Bowls have been played and while there have been some memorable ones (last year's for example), Super Bowl 50 was just so, so in my opinion. Everyone was expecting big things from Cam Newton but the Denver defense stepped up and had him running and rushing his passes all night long. As for Peyton Manning, he was lucky that the defense played as well as it did because he certainly did not do much to win the game for the Broncos. The final score of Denver 28 and Carolina 10 should give you an idea of what kind of game it was.
Fred's Football Follies has come to an end for another year and I hope that you had a good time playing as I certainly had a good time administering the pool. We had some new players join us this year and if you were instrumental in getting these new players to join, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Of course, your entry fee for each of the three main pools next year will be discounted to $80 for those of you that enlisted new players.
If you won any money during the course of the year, congratulations to you...the check has been issued or is in the mail as the saying goes. Winning is always a good incentive to play again next year. I am also sending out my annual request to get some of your friends or co-workers to join the pool...the more players, the more money available to win. The annual March Madness Pool registration is underway if you are interested in that pool.
Have a good summer and we will see you all in September.
Hey Fred, I haven’t played in the last few years but is this the first time we have had a winner before the Sunday night game even began ? If so, I’m sure it hasn’t happened too many times.
For the 20th year in a row, HHR has managed to win some money in the pool, the only player to do so. Click on the Most Won 2002-2021 link for details. Congratulations HHR!
